This is the strictest part of the entry inspection. New Zealand has some of the world's most stringent biosecurity laws, and it strictly prohibits bringing in any meat, eggs, honey, fruits, seeds, Chinese herbs, or any other plant and animal products. Japan also bans bringing in fresh meat, fruits, and similar items. To avoid hefty fines or being denied entry, always declare any uncertain items truthfully. In addition, both countries have limits on the amount of duty-free tobacco and alcohol that can be brought in. New Zealand also requires that any cash carried over NZD 10,000 (or equivalent in other currencies) must be declared.
